More energy - together

The new WINGAS vision in a competitive market

Kassel. Together we are stronger and can achieve more: with its new vision “WINGAS. More energy - together.” the Kassel-based gas trans-mission company is making it clear from the start that it is not only a supplier of natural gas, but also a partner and advisor to its customers. The successful energy company wants to continue to intensify and develop its competitive strength and its customer-oriented service in the future. As a partner working with public utilities, regional gas suppliers and industry, WINGAS is one of the major suppliers of natural gas in the German market. WINGAS has now also extended its natural gas sales operations to Belgium, France and the United Kingdom.

“WINGAS works closely with its customers in a partnership that offers more than the mere supply of energy,” explained Dr. Linda von dem Bussche, head of communications. “The company is always ready to discuss the customer’s concerns and offers tailor-made, individual and innovative solutions. That is why the company is a strong partner with whom more can be achieved.” A good example of collaboration cited by the head of communications is the construction of a conditioning plant in Bielefeld, which the public utilities there are building together with WINGAS. This plant will permanently remove all the technical restrictions that have applied in the past, thereby clearly extending the freedom of natural gas consumers in the city to choose their supplier. WINGAS also provides support for its customers in a competitive market, which involves offering a marketing service and strategy advice. “The new vision encapsulates the partnership between the energy company and its customers in a simple yet effective and clear phrase,” said Linda von dem Bussche.

Since WINGAS GmbH was founded over ten years ago, it has proved to be not only a competent, flexible and reliable partner to its customers, but has also experienced for itself, as a joint venture of Wintershall AG and OAO Gazprom, what a strong partnership can mean. “This German-Russian collaboration created the conditions that allowed us to establish ourselves as a gas transmission company in the German market,” continued von dem Bussche. This partnership has brought great benefits – not least to WINGAS customers – since the energy company, through OAO Gazprom, has direct access to the world’s largest natural gas deposits in Russia, thereby ensuring a high security of supply.

WINGAS GmbH is a joint venture of Wintershall (65 %) and the Russian company OAO Gazprom (35 %). The two partners have both been active in the gas supply industry since 1990 and now supply natural gas to public utilities, major industrial enterprises and regional gas distribution companies in Germany and other European countries via their network of pipelines that is now more than 2,000 kilometres in length. So far Wintershall and Gazprom have invested more than 2.7 billion euros in developing the WINGAS gas pipeline system. The network links the major gas reserves in Siberia with the growing markets in Western Europe and also provides WINGAS with access to the developing European spot markets. With its natural gas storage facility at Rehden, which has a working gas volume in excess of four billion cubic metres, WINGAS possesses about one fifth of the total storage capacity available in Germany. The natural gas storage facility at Rehden is the largest natural gas reservoir in Western Europe.
