Art is the result of creative thought and action. It is characterized by the circumstances surrounding its date of origin and arises from a creative process. Total Enlightenment. Moscow Conceptual Art 1960–90
Moscow Conceptual Art and its representatives are still not very well known here in Germany. This is largely due to the fact that those artists of the former Soviet Union whose agenda didn’t comply with the specifications of the ruling aesthetic of Socialist Realism were underground artists. With the “Total Enlightenment, Moscow Conceptual Art 1960–90” exhibition, the renowned SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE FRANKFURT has awarded this facet of contemporary Russian art the highlight it so richly deserves.

Our Russians - Our Germans.
Balalaika and beer mug, drunkenness and timeliness, wild Cossack and fascist beast: these are just some of the many positive and negative characteristics that have defined and simplified the image other people have of Germans and Russians in the past and indeed some still apply today. The exhibition entitled “Unsere Russen – Unsere Deutschen. Bilder vom Anderen 1800–2000” ("Our Russians - Our Germans. Images of the Other Side 1800-2000"), from 8 December 2007 to 2 March 2008 in Berlin, Schloss Charlottenburg, looked back on these mutual perceptions that existed in Germany and Russia in the 19th and 20th century.
