The acquisition of what was once the UK’s largest onshore natural gas field at Saltfleetby is another step forward in the further expansion of WINGAS's European natural gas storage capacities. WINGAS Storage UK Ltd. will convert the former natural gas field into a storage facility. Since its acquisition of the natural gas field at the end of 2004 WINGAS has examined the technical feasibility of the project, held meetings with residents and local politicians and prepared an analysis of the environmental impact. WINGAS Storage UK Ltd. ("WINGAS") began the approval process for the storage project at the start of 2006.
At present the approval application submitted by WINGAS Storage UK Ltd. is being examined by the responsible authorities.
The storage facility will be able to hold more than 700 million cubic metres of natural gas.
